Solutions
① Drag and reopen a different instrument
Following XM’s guide, drag and drop the instrument from the quotes onto the chart to reopen it.
② Check if it’s outside of trading hours
This happens surprisingly often.
For example:
Index CFDs are closed
Individual stock CFDs are outside of market hours
Weekend suspension for currencies other than cryptocurrencies
If “FX is moving, but only that instrument is stopped,” it’s highly likely to be outside of trading hours.
③ Check the connection status in the bottom right
If the bottom right of MT4/MT5 shows

Not connected
The connection indicator is extremely low
Even if you have it installed on a VPS, MT is not connected to the server.
In this case, re-selecting the server → restarting MT is effective.
④ Restart MT4/MT5
Simple, but quite effective.

When the EA is not displayed

EA does not appear in the Navigator

Possible Causes
This is almost always caused by a placement error.

① Check if it is in the correct folder
On MT4/MT5:
File → Open Data Folder
Then
MT4 → MQL4 > Experts
MT5 → MQL5 > Experts
Place the EA file in these folders.
② Review ex4/ex5
This is extremely important.
.ex4 → For MT4
.ex5 → For MT5
They are not compatible.
In other words,
An .ex5 file won’t work in MT4.
An .ex4 file won’t work in MT5.
③ Update the Navigator
Follow the XM guide,
right-click on “Expert Advisors” in the Navigator → select “Refresh”.

③ Conditions haven’t been met yet
This is quite common.

If a position is open and waiting for the next condition
Nothing will happen even if everything is normal.
In other words, it’s not that it “doesn’t move,” but rather that it “hasn’t fired yet.”
④ Lot size or order condition errors
Common errors include:
Lot size less than minimum / greater than maximum
SL/TP too close
Insufficient margin
EA running on an unsupported instrument
In this case, even if it appears to be stopped,
the order is actually being rejected in the background.
How to Cancel XM’s VPS
To cancel XM’s VPS, you generally need to submit a cancellation request through the member area (or via support).
Most importantly, be sure to back up your MT4/MT5, EA, and configuration files before canceling. The VPS is a service you apply for through the XM member area, and if you’re using the paid service, 28 USD per month is automatically deducted from your account on the 1st of each month.
